Village Schools Partnership

Partnerships are vital to supporting our community and in working with both our schools, we can listen to the voices of our young people and find out what they like and dislike, and the improvements they would like to see within the village. The Vision Group supports both our village schools throughout the year, and our village nursery children visit our Hub regularly for a snack and a blether.  Yearly donations to our schools include selection boxes, plants and soil, easter eggs, and book tokens where the school can decide to run competitions, or use to support school funds.

Environmental Projects

Each year the Vision Group provides both our village school with fresh compost and a selection of plants, and grow your own fruit and vegetables.  More recently, our schools have also received two new planters for the new season.  These will complement the apple tree orchard created by the Vision Group at Our Lady's Primary School, and the '100 trees of the world' created by the Vision Group at Stoneyburn Primary School.

Scottish Book Week

Intergenerational events have also proven popular within the village; with both our village schools and Young at Heart club supporting the November 2023 Scottish Book Week.  As well as shared reading experiences, and writing workshops from local author Scott Fleming, our children took part in a book trail around the Fulshie Woodland.  Each child taking part also took home a book of their choice to celebrate Scottish Book Week.  Funded by Scottish Book Trust.

Reading Corner

Both village schools
received £1,565 to create an outdoor reading area to foster a love of reading in an open and natural space.  Both schools chose an outdoor area to create their reading nooks to enhance the reading experience the children already receive.  Reading environments with a greater number of plants and greenery have a proven positive impact on mental health, reducing stress and anxiety in learners, while providing an opportunity to access natural play areas.
