Village Improvements

Upgrade to Fulshie Park

Thanks to funding from the Place-Based Investment Fund (WLC), the Fulshie has been given an upgrade, including new picnic benches, an all-weather table-tennis table, and a solar-powered bench to help keep everyone connected.  The bench even has a built-in speaker, so why not pop along and try it out for yourself?  Our Amigos group and lots of fun listening to their favourite music while testing out the new table tennis table for themselves.

January 2024 – New Benches at the Miners' Cairn.

The previous benches, although well looked after and receiving several coats of paint to prolong their life, unfortunately, through wear and tear, became unsafe.  These were removed and new benches were sourced from the Men of Leith Men's Shed (a program run by men, for men, helping men avoid loneliness and isolation, and engage with other men and our local community.

Yearly - Ongoing - Village Planters and raised beds

There are several planters throughout the village that the Group upkeep.  We are hugely grateful to Jean who ensures we have a seasonal display within our planters and Raymond for keeping the Fulshie tidy, weeded and the grass mowed.

The raised beds are currently undergoing work with support from the Community Payback Team, with the area being cleared for works to begin as part of the miners' memorial at the Fulshie.

Town Centre Funding 2022-2023

This year the groups within the community met once again to decide on the projects to be taken forward. We applied for two projects and West Lothian Council has awarded the following within our community.

Both village schools received £1,565 to create an outdoor reading area to foster a love of reading in an open and natural space.

Stoneyburn Junior Football Club, received £9,040 to replace their current dugouts for their home and away section.

A small amount of money was also awarded to Mood to create a garden area beside the community centre – more information will be available from Mood directly.
